SECRETARIAT ADMINISTRATIVE CIRCULAR NO.34.

Accommodation and Subsistence Allowance.

With effect from 1st April, 1948, the operation of General Order 104, 104A and 104B(1) (Field and Hard-lying allowances) will be suspended, and the following arrangements will become operative. They will be embodied at a later date in General Orders.

An officer, who is required by the nature of his duties to be away overnight from his headquarters or his place of abode, may, provided he remains within the confines of the Colony, be granted allowances for accommodation and/or subsistence to compensate for the additional expenditure which he may be expected to incur.

An accommodation allowance at the rate set out below is payable for each night spent on duty while the officer is resident in accommodation for which a charge to him is made:-

(a) Officers of a grade which carries an initial basic

salary of more than $140 a month: $8 for each night.

(b) Officers of a grade which carries an initial basic

salary of less than $140 a month and daily paid employees; $3 for each night.

If no expense is incurred on accommodation, no allowance will be payable.

4. The allowance will be reduced by half for any continuous period in excess of 7 days, but, in exceptional cases, the full allowance may, with the sanction of the Accountant General, be drawn. No allowance will be payable in respect of any continuous period after the expiry of one month.

If actual expenses for accommodation are more than the authorised allowance, reimbursement of actual expenses will be considered on production to the Accountant General of receipt ed bills, provided that the arrangements made were reasonably economical, having regard to all the circumstances and the officer's status.

A subsistence allowance at the rate set out below is payable to cover the extra cost of food, where an officer is absent from his headquarters or place of abode for a period of more than 12 hours;-

(a) Officers of a grade which carries an initial basic

salary of more than $140 a month: $4 for each period of 24 hours.

(b) Officers of a grade which carries an initial basic salary of less than $140 a month and daily paid employees: $3 for each period of 24 hours.

Officers on cruising launches, however, will draw $3 for class (a) and $1.50 for class (b).

7. In special circumstances, officers on emergency detachment duty may draw subsistence allowance with the approval
